About Shanti Cohousing
This website presents information about the proposed Shanti Cohousing project in or near Swansea.
The project is currently in its development phase. The intended operating entity is Shanti Cohousing Project Ltd. Until the company becomes fully operational, the project is coordinated and represented by Alan Heck, who is also responsible for the content of this website. The project is currently in its early development phase and continues to evolve as ideas are refined and future residents become involved.
Unless otherwise stated, the texts, plans, visual concepts and website content are the intellectual property of Alan Heck. Certain images are used under licence. Please do not reproduce, modify or distribute material from this website without prior permission.
The project has been initiated personally by Alan, who intends to live in the community himself. His longer-term vision is not only to help create this successful cohousing community in Swansea, but also to support the development of similar projects elsewhere.
Alan was born in Canada and holds a degree in Biology, followed by teacher training in Biology and Chemistry. He has lived in Canada, Sweden and Germany, last in Berlin, where he spent 25 years before relocating to Wales. He is the father of two adult children and is now retired from full-time professional work.
Over the years, Alan has also gained qualifications and experience in several fields, including communications, real estate economics (European Business School), Hatha Yoga teaching, and meditation instruction in the Sivananda tradition.
In Alan's own words:
“I have no profit motive in these projects. My hope is simply to recover the costs and expenses incurred in helping to establish them. I am doing this because I believe in the idea of community living and wish to contribute something positive. In the yogic tradition, you might call it Karma Yoga – service offered for the benefit of others.”
